Northumberland
The Northumberland tartan was originally worn by shepherds guarding their flocks within the Scottish borders.
Textile historians have dated a fragment of the pattern, discovered in a bottle near Falkirk, to 270 AD, suggesting that the pattern was known as early as Roman times.
